Year 7 Music

music.pngThis term, we were extremely excited to meet our new Year 7 students. Students had been set the task to listen to some strange and interesting instruments (e.g. the marble machine) and then design their own from recyclable material. The students here at PGHS never cease to amaze us and brought in some fantastic inventions as you can see from the photograph. We then had much fun trying to play them in class!

GCSE Music Concert

On Thursday 17th October, GCSE Musicians hosted a concert to showcase their talents. For Year 11 students, this was an opportunity for students to practise performing their first piece of coursework which will be recorded early in the next half term. For Year 10 students, it was an opportunity to perform in public and it was a first performance in public for some! The school choir also made a guest appearance to perform the song ‘Beautiful’. All students gave their very best, despite some nerves and the Music Department were extremely proud of them all. Proceeds from the evening are being split between the Young Minds charity and the Soroptimisses – we will let you know how much we raised in a future newsletter. Well done girls!

Cross Country Success

On Saturday the 5th of October, the PGHS cross country teams competed in the annual South Ribble Cross Country Championships. We had representatives from all years running throughout the morning and what a success it was! All girls ran competitively, with a significant amount of motivation which showed their pride to represent their school at such an important event. I was particularly proud of the participation of all our girls, as well as the success we achieved throughout the morning. The following girls finished in the top 20 in their race:

Katie M – 1st place in the U16 race.

Scarlett S – 5th place in the U16 race.

Eden S – 14th place in the U16 race.

Megan S – 19th place in the U16 race.

Grace A – 20th place in the U16 race.

Freya A – 3rd place in the U14 race.

Eloise W – 13th place in the U14 race.

Katie W – 15th place in the U12 race.

A fantastic effort from all the girls involved! Katie M, Scarlett S and Freya A will now go on to represent South Ribble at the Lancashire Schools Cross Country Championships at Witton Park in Blackburn.

Good luck girls!

Year 9 Sporting Success!

immy.jpgIt is always fantastic to hear about students succeeding in areas of interest away from school and recently I was delighted to hear that Immy (9S) was a part of a Premier League football club academy. I can’t say as a Liverpool fan that I was overjoyed to hear that she is an Everton Blue but nobody’s perfect Immy! Keep up the hard work; myself and I’m sure all of Year 9, wish you great success!

(Don’t hide away your successes outside of school – let your form tutor or RAC know what you are up to; we would love to hear about it!)

Triathlon Success!

katiem.pngKatie M in Year 10 has been training extremely hard which is most certainly paying off! Katie was selected to represent the North West at the British Triathlon under 20’s big weekend in Mallory Park this September. Only three athletes were selected to compete for each age category. Katie competed against the best triathletes from all over the UK and finished in 12th position.  She was the first finisher for the North West.

Katie will also hopefully finish the North West series in first place. This has paved the way for her competing in the National Super Series next season. Fantastic news for Katie!  We wish you the best of luck in your upcoming season.

Gymnastics Club

Advance notice! After half-term, a new Gymnastics club will be starting at a lunch time. PGHS has invested in new state of the art gymnastics equipment that will be used in lessons as well as the Gymnastics club.  In the club, you will be able to perform both floor work and vaulting. We are very excited and hope to see you all at Gymnastics club after half term!

Gymnastics Success

Grace D in Year 8 is growing from strength to strength in Gymnastics! She has recently competed in the ‘Compulsory One’ competition as an all-round gymnast. She performed routines on the vault, bar, beam, floor and conditioning. 60 gymnasts entered the competition and only 8 met the standard required, showing the level in which Grace was competing against. Grace finished a fantastic 3rd position which has resulted in her achieving a place in the British Championships in Liverpool in March. Grace is currently training exceptionally hard to perform at her very best at her upcoming competition. We wish Grace the best of luck and can’t wait to hear how she gets on!

New Extra-Curricular Programme!

We have created a new extra-curricular programme this year, in order to encourage mass participation and help our students lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Lunchtime clubs are alternative activities for students to come to PE during lunch time and enable students to have a go at playing a new sport. Challenge yourself after half-term to try a new club at lunchtime.
