At PGHS our special needs provision is led by Mrs Woodhouse (SENCO) and Mrs Holland (Deputy SENCO). We strive to provide students with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) with the best possible support. In line with the SEND Code of Practice, it is our teaching staff who take the lead in our SEND provision. All teachers are required to plan lessons which are accessible to all pupils, including those with SEND. We believe it is our qualified subject specialist teaching staff who are best placed to support and guide students with SEND.
If you have a SEND related question, please contact Mrs Woodhouse by emailing: c.woodhouse@penworthamgirls.lancs.sch.uk. If Mrs Woodhouse is unable to answer you query, she will forward your question to the most appropriate member of staff.
As well as providing in class, small group and 1-1 support we also run breakfast, break and lunchtime clubs.
Our department ensures that:
The School recognises the importance of early identification and intervention in order to address the needs of SEND pupils, as identified in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0-25 years (2014).
