SEND – Local Offer

At PGHS our special needs provision is led by Mrs McGibbon (SENCO) and Miss Parker (Deputy SENCO). We strive to provide students with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) with the best possible support. In line with the SEND Code of Practice, it is our teaching staff who take the lead in our SEND provision. All teachers are required to plan lessons which are accessible to all pupils, including those with SEND. We believe it is our qualified subject specialist teaching staff who are best placed to support and guide students with SEND.

If you have a SEND related question, please contact Mrs McGibbon by emailing: k.mcgibbon@penworthamgirls.lancs.sch.uk. If Mrs McGibbon is unable to answer you query, she will forward your question to the most appropriate member of staff.

As well as providing in class, small group and 1-1 support we also run breakfast, break and lunchtime clubs.

Our department ensures that:

  • All pupils are entitled to the greatest possible access to a broad and balanced education.
  • All support provided to pupils with SEND is positive: building on achievement not failure.
  • All staff have responsibility for the management of SEND within their classroom.
  • All parents are regarded as equal partners in the support of pupils with SEND.

The School recognises the importance of early identification and intervention in order to address the needs of SEND pupils, as identified in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0-25 years (2014).
