Miss M Brooks

Teacher of Religious Studies

It has been my dream to pursue a career in teaching for as long as I can remember as I have always wanted to make a difference to young people’s lives. Therefore, I am thrilled to teach at a school as great as Penwortham Girls’. During my own time in high school, I developed an interest in Religious Education. I quickly realised RE taught within a secular high-school setting is very different to what might have been previously studied at primary school. What I love about Religious Education is that you are learning about people, societies and cultures from all over the world, alongside the study of religions and belief in God. Religious Education enables you to engage with life’s biggest questions and explore their possible answers. It gives you a better understanding of the people we live amongst in our multi-cultural society, which is why I think it is a subject of great personal, spiritual and academic value.

During the holidays, I enjoy travelling to explore and experience the different cultures, which exist around the world. On a weekend, you can usually find me reading mystery or crime novels on the sofa with my little kitten Romeo. My favourite books include ‘Gone Girl’ by Gillian Flynn and ‘The Farm’ by Rob Smith.

Miss E Hollier

Teacher of Religious Studies

I feel so lucky to have started working at Penwortham Girls’ High School, having recently moved to the area after teaching for five years at my previous school in Colne. When I was in High School my RE teacher’s passion for the subject inspired me to pursue a career in teaching RE. After High School I continued to study RE and then went on to Edge Hill University where I completed my RE teacher training degree so I could share my love and passion for RE with others. I have always found the subject exciting because it is so relevant to the real world we live in, from learning about different religions and cultures to exploring different real-world issues and themes. In my spare time I love to play netball, spend time with friends and family and travel when I can. Additionally, I also enjoy spending time with my cats, Reggie and Flo and rabbits, Norris and Dack whilst watching football or formula one.
