Mrs Cattanach – Transition Manager

Hello. My name is Mrs Cattanach and I am the Raising Achievement Co-ordinator (RAC) for Year 7, which basically means I’m in charge of the year group. I have already visited the vast majority of you in your primary schools and am really looking forward to getting to know you better and helping you to settle in and make a great start at PGHS. I am proud to be part of a wonderful team of committed Year 7 tutors who will help you to feel at home as quickly as possible.
As well as being the Year 7 RAC, I am also the Head of Music here at Penwortham Girls’ and love making music with pupils in school. I play the Euphonium and Piano and in my spare time you can find me out and about in Penwortham or in the kitchen baking cakes! I really enjoy decorating cakes for birthdays and other special occasions.
I hope you are going to be very happy here in your new school and will take every opportunity to get involved in school life!

Remember my motto:

Try your best in everything and be kind to others!

Mr Dean – Head of Year 7

I’m Mr Dean, I am your Head of Year! That means I am responsible for looking after every year 7 student. If you have any concerns, feel free to pop by and have a chat with me! I also teach Science at Penwortham Girls’ and some of you may have me for Science. I love the wonder and curiosity that Science can bring, and I will try and help you to be as passionate about Science as I am! Before I became a teacher, I was also a chef and enjoy fusing different cuisines together. Sport is also a big part of my life and I love to support my teams of Wigan Warriors and Liverpool FC! I can’t wait to meet you when you start your secondary school journey, it might seem scary and you might be nervous, but I will do my best to put you at ease and guide you through high school.

7KGI’s Form Tutor Mrs Gill

Hello, my name is Mrs Gill and I look forward to welcoming you to Penwortham Girls’ High School! As well as being your form tutor, I am also the Head of Languages here and I mainly teach German but can also teach French.  I also speak several other languages and enjoy learning new ones.  I am passionate about communicating with people, meeting different people and travelling to different countries to enjoy their cultures and sights. As your form tutor, I will be here every morning to greet you and help get your day off to a great start. My job will be to help make sure things run smoothly for you and to help you settle into school life here and support you through your five years here.  I look forward to welcoming you to our school and showing you all the fun and exciting things we have to offer.

7MBR’s Form Tutor Miss Brooks:

Hello, my name is Miss Brooks and I am an a RE teacher here at Penwortham Girls’. This will be my fifth-year teaching here and my first time being a year 7 form tutor which means I understand that new beginnings can be a little scary when faced with the unknown. However, I know that Penwortham Girls’ is an extremely welcoming and supportive school so there is no need to worry. Everyone will greet you with a smile on their face and be ready to help you with any concerns. I love teaching about RE as it makes you compassionate towards the people around you. I truly believe that if we live our life by treating others as you would want to be treated, there would never be any issues in the world. As a result of my values, I run a charity club here at Penwortham Girls’ called Soroptimisses, we are always looking for new members, it would be lovely to see some of you there and it’s a fantastic way to make new friends across different year groups. I love reading and binge-watching TV series so I look forward to hearing all about what you watch and read!

7HGO’s Form Tutor Mrs Goodwill:

Hello, I am Mrs Goodwill.  I know some of you will have some worries about starting secondary school. As your form tutor, I will help you settle in and support you with all the new routines and expectations.  As well as being a year 7 tutor, I am a Science teacher.  I love teaching Science and Chemistry and I want all students to realise their potential and develop skills they can use in any career. My main interest outside of school is athletics.  I compete and officiate in local leagues, and I am a qualified coach at Burnley Athletic club. I am really looking forward to our journey together at Penwortham Girls’ High School.

7DKN’s Form Tutor Mr Knee:

Hello, I am Mr Knee and I am looking forward to meeting you all in September, although starting secondary school can be a daunting experience, myself and the rest of the staff at PGHS will be at hand to help you settle in. As well as being a form tutor, I have taught science for the past 21 years, the last 5 being at PGHS, I love teaching science and I particularly enjoy helping students carry out investigations to discover things for themselves. Outside of teaching I enjoy outdoor activities including fishing and golf as well as taking my dogs for long walks in the countryside. It will be an exciting new start for you all and I look forward to helping you develop as you begin your journey at PGHS.
