Year 10 Work Experience

Here you can find details about our Work Experience Programme for 2024 – 2025.

Year 10 work experience is due to take place between Monday 19th –  Friday 23rd May 2025, and there are two routes that students can take:

EITHER:

  1.  Self-placement (face-to-face) work experience – students identify a suitable placement with an employer and complete the required documentation (also on this page).

OR:

  1. Work alongside our career advisor to secure a placement from one of our supporting organisations.

We work hard to develop and maintain relationships with organisations that support our students during their work experience week.

We currently work with a range of organisations including:

  • Integrate Preston
  • Booths
  • Ellan Fay Solicitors
  • Electricity Northwest
  • The Waterside Dental Clinic

In recent times, students from PGHS have completed work experience with the

  • NHS
  • British Aerospace
  • United Utilities
  • Marks & Spencer
  • Eddie Stobart

During work experience week, students can access an online logbook that is completed during placement. This allows students to record activities and learning, as well reflecting on their experience.

Below are direct quotes from students from our 2024 work experience week:

“I can honestly say that it might have been one of the best weeks of my life”

“Overall, it was a transformative experience that will inform my future”

“I have really enjoyed my work experience and it has been great to get an idea of other career pathways (I will definitely keep it in mind for the future)”

“Sisk has given me an entirely different view on engineering and construction-based jobs and the hard work businesses put in to improve our environments and roads”

“I genuinely enjoyed this placement and I now still want to peruse a career in education. I haven’t had any low points at this placement.”

“I learned more about transformers and how they provide us with electricity in our daily lives.  I also learned how to connect wires to cables and how transformers maintain high voltage.  I also learned about site-specific dangers in everyday life, understanding the dangers around us and how we can prevent it.”

“I have achieved a lot, specifically being noticed for my hard work with the pupils”

Every organisation is asked to fill out a feedback form, this allows the student to receive feedback on their placement and can also act as a reference for future interviews. The feedback from employers has been exemplary, the benefits for students and employers are clear to see. Below is some of the fantastic feedback we have received:

Student has shown dedication, communication and skills and I feel she will be an asset to any employer in the future”

Student has work really hard while she has been here for the week”

“I would not hesitate to recommend Student to any potential employer. She was prompt, good natured, confident, enthusiastic, personable and smart. Perhaps most impressively, she used her initiative to think beyond just the task that was set”

Student’s placement with the Lancashire Police Specialist Operations Department has been outstanding. Her enthusiasm and dedication were apparent in every department she visited leaving a lasting positive impression on all staff members”

“To give Student the best possible experience, I placed her within each area of the Practice. Student observed sessions with the GP partner, locum GP’s, paramedics, physiotherapist, nurses and also spent time in the reception and admin areas. Student also spent time with me to experience the management of the Practice. Student is a credit to herself and her family, as well as your school, and we would gladly welcome her back”
