After leaving PGHS in 2007, I studied at Cardinal Newman College before completing my undergraduate degree in Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Cumbria in Lancaster. I qualified as a Diagnostic Radiographer in 2012 and worked at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. During my clinical career, I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Medical Imaging at the University of Salford, specialising in Mammography (breast imaging).
During the pandemic, I joined my hospital Covid-19 Research Team and collected data for the RECOVERY trial, which later proved the drug Dexamethasone could be used to alleviate Covid-19 symptoms.
I worked as a Senior Specialist Radiographer and Mammographer until 2022, when I decided to make the leap into academia. I now work as a Diagnostic Radiography Lecturer at the University of Cumbria and so it feels as though I have come full circle! I have recently completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education and I am hoping to start studying my MA in Education in Summer 2025.
In my academic role, I teach on both our undergraduate degree and apprenticeship degree programmes. My main teaching focuses are clinical skills and preparation for professional practice. I am also currently the Deputy Clinical Co-ordinator meaning I help to oversee the clinical placement aspects of our programmes. As an academic radiographer, I am also involved with research. My main research focus is the history of the profession (history has always been a passion of mine, and was my favourite subject at PGHS!).
