Staff Members

Nicola McDermott WEB

Miss N McDermott
Head of Religious Studies, Community Studies, Citizenship and PSHE

I am very excited to be a part of PGHS – a school with such an incredible reputation in the local area and it has become immediately clear to me why! The girls and the staff have been so welcoming already and I am still amazed at how conscientious, bright and passionate the pupils are about their subjects.

I have been teaching for a number of years within a range of differing contexts. I started my teaching career at a boys’ grammar and boarding school in Lancaster and then moved onto a joint denominational mixed school. Having been a Head of Faculty for 2 years, leading my previous school through several OFSTED inspections, I feel I have the drive and experience to give the girls at PGHS a thoroughly engaging and challenging Religious Studies curriculum with some exciting new teaching strategies.

Having studied at a girls’ school myself, I know just how important these years are for our girls and I am looking forward to contributing not just to my subject area, but to the many aspects of school life.

In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, cooking and travelling as often as I can to scuba dive, particularly on shipwrecks!

I thoroughly look forward to settling into school life here at PGHS and helping our pupils achieve great things!

Alex Shoorock WEB

Mr A Shorrock
Teacher of Religious Studies, Community Studies and Citizenship

Hello and thank you for the warm welcome I have been given since starting at PGHS.  I am extremely excited at the prospect of developing this brand new department with Miss McDermott.

I've been teaching for a number of years around the Lancashire area.  My teaching specialisms are Religious Studies, Community Studies and Citizenship, although historically I have also taught History and Geography.

My passion for Religious Studies stems from my RS teacher at high school and I hope to pass this onto to you all.  Religious Studies and Community Studies are fantastic subjects that can teach you not only how to respect yourself, but others too.  It will help develop your ethical values and you will learn how to have positive relationships with people who may have a different belief system to your own which is very important in this diverse society we live in.

My hobbies outside of school are anything to do with water really, so fishing, scuba diving, surfing and swimming.  I also like to collect watches, and enjoy watching films and box sets when I get the time.

Since joining here it is wonderful to see how articulate and enthusiastic the girls are about RS and I look forward to getting to know you all in the coming months.
