Key Stage 3 Textiles

Year 7

In year 7, students have been busy designing and making a product for a small child, based on the theme of childhood adventure stories. The product must be educational and include a smart material. We had some amazing outcomes, which fully addressed the needs of the client and the task set.

Year 8

Year 8 students were tasked with designing a product which would hold essential items for a young adult attending a festival of their choice. They had to create a pattern using CAD, which they later dye sublimated onto their fabric. Students developed a pattern template and used the sewing machine to construct their product.

Year 9

Students in year 9 Textiles have been looking at how they can encourage and promote more sustainable fashion. They explored the effects of fast fashion on the environment and then upcycled some unwanted clothing to produce a piece of home furnishing for a chosen client. They developed a range of skills and techniques, including how to use the sewing machine and how to apply applique to their cushions.
