Interview with Councillor Neil Darby

International Day was on 17th May against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. As a school, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment for all students and invited Councillor Neil Darby to share his story with the students and discover more about the second-youngest Mayor of Preston in the 800-year history of the post.

We interviewed Neil online and asked him about his life experiences and the journey from student to Mayor of Preston. He was very generous with his time and shared his path through life. He told the students that although in his early years, he was unsure of what he wanted to do, he has now enjoyed a successful career in politics as a gay man.

Additionally, he explained the importance of being visible and forging a path for others, and that attitudes towards the LGBTQIA+ community have changed over the years. Furthermore, he outlined the importance of being your true self so that you can achieve happiness in life. Neil is now going to enjoy some spare time as his time as Mayor of Preston comes to an end.
