Electricity

Our Year 10 physicists are currently studying the Electricity unit. As part of this unit of work, students learn about mains electricity and the national grid. Our physicists will also learn about electrical plugs and how to wire them. Students in 10a/Sc5 took to this task very quickly; I think we might have a few future electricians in our midst! Here is a photo of Grace wiring a plug. Electrical plugs consist of three different coloured wires (live, neutral and earth) connected to the three brass pins on the outside of the plug. All three of these wires are made out of copper.  Do you know why?

There is an easy way to remember where the wires go in a plug; bRown on the RIGHT, bLue on the LEFT and sTriped on the TOP!
