Mathematics at Key Stage 4

There will be two tiers of entry for this linear examination.

  • Foundation Tier (Grades 1 to 5)
  • Higher Tier (Grades 4 to 9)

For the Edexcel Specification, there will be 3 papers for each tier each lasting 1 ½ hours.

There will be 1 non-calculator paper and 2 calculator papers.

During Key Stage 4, students will follow a differentiated scheme of learning, details of which can be found by clicking on the link below. They will be regularly assessed throughout years 10 and 11 through a combination of formal assessments and consolidation/homework tasks. They will be encouraged to develop their problem-solving skills including reasoning and justification of their answers and also their written communication and literacy.

Support and Intervention

All teachers in the department offer revision and support sessions during both lunchtimes and after school throughout the year. In the lead up to and during the examination season, further specific sessions are provided to ensure pupils are fully prepared for their GCSE exams.

Identified pupils are also able to opt to take Maths Study Plus as one of their options. This course is extremely successful and has had a significant impact on the results achieved by the pupils year on year.
