Computing News

Year 9 Computing

Year 9 have spent last half term looking at theme parks learning a range of skills that include marketing, working out the finances and designing a ride. There has been some great work produced with some interesting ideas for theme park rides and a variety of ways to finance the theme park.

Year 8 Computing

Year 8 have spent last half term looking into Technology. This unit has involved the history of computing technology and its future. We have looked at exciting futuristic products and household devices that will be available on the market in the next few years. The assessment that the girls have just completed was to design and develop a new piece of technology or product that would make people’s lives easier.  The girls have been extremely creative with their ideas around this design assessment.  Products have ranged from futuristic transport to modern day robotics and sport and beauty products. Here’s hoping we might have a future Anita Roddick (Founder of The Body Shop) here at PGHS!

Year 7 Computing

Year 7 spent last half term learning about interactive presentations and hyperlinks. The girls have written their own adventure story and demonstrated some very imaginative story-writing skills.  The adventure stories created allow the reader to select how the story ends and there are definitely some very interesting endings.

They have started to invent ways of making the school a greener place to be and they have been asked to design an idea to help make the school a more environmentally friendly place.  So far, there have been some interesting ideas, ranging from recycling to solar panels.

GCSE Computer Science

Year 10 have been working hard and have been learning about the environmental and ethical impact of computing in everyday lives.  They have learnt about a variety of legislations surrounding computing. The girls are currently creating revision material in preparation for an assessment which will be based on what they have been studying. Good luck, girls with the upcoming assessment!

Year 11 have been completing exam papers.  We have recapped ‘pseudocode’ again to build confidence in this area.  This has clearly worked, as the girls are more confident at answering these questions.

Everyone in Computer Science have worked extremely hard during the remote period and I am excited to start face-to-face teaching once again.

BTEC Creative Media and Productions

Year 11 have completed a practise component 3 (externally set work). The students had to design a media product for a music company, Harmonica Music. They could either produce a magazine or website for music enthusiasts. They have had to research ideas and then plan their product before creating this. There was as always, some incredible work produced. We are now looking at the actual component 3 brief, which is researching ideas that they could potentially use.
