Careers in Design and Technology

During the final week of school last term, Year 8 were introduced to careers within Design and Technology through a focused practical task. Students were to imagine themselves as part of a production team designing and making greetings cards for the company, Cath Kidston. Students worked in small teams and had to delegate tasks in the production line to produce the cards. Their roles involved using a laser cutter to cut out the designs in card, printing designs on to fabric using the heat press, hand stitching and machine stitching fabric into the cards and decorating the cards with greeting designs. Students worked well together and they could see how the quality of the products improved the more that they produced. Team work was a big part in the activity and students really got to feel what it was like to work alongside others and listen to and give advice to one another.
