BTEC Creative Media- Zoom Visit by Journalism Lecturer, Paul Duckworth

The students had a zoom visit this week by Paul Duckworth who is a lecturer in journalism at the University of Salford. He has previously worked at Granada news as a producer and is based at Media City in Salford.

Paul spoke to the girls about not only his career, but also possible pathways into media, journalism and a variety of other areas in the sector. It was also a great opportunity to see what some of Paul’s graduate students have gone on to do, such as becoming sports commentators, assistant directors and crew co- coordinators. Before the talk, the girls were set a brief to write a short article about their own experiences of lockdown and Paul gave some invaluable feedback in a recorded video.

Student feedback from the session:

‘I really enjoyed the zoom call because it made me realise how many jobs are within the media. It’s made me want to look more into those jobs.’

‘I really enjoyed the call and one of the YouTube videos about the crew coordinator really inspired me to have an in-depth look at it as it could be a potential job for me.’

‘Very interesting to see what goes on behind T.V programmes.  I enjoyed the Zoom call. :)’

‘I think the Zoom call was packed full of information – I really enjoyed the meeting and all the opportunities that the media can bring.’
