French Baking

During the half-term break, Year 9 French were given an optional “French Pâtisserie” challenge: to follow a step-by-step recipe in French to create a (hopefully) delicious typical French dessert.

The girls had 5 recipes to choose from but the 3 recipes they favoured were “Tarte aux pommes”, “Truffes au chocolat” and “Mousse au chocolat”. I think the word “chocolat” might have caught their eye!

Tilly P in 9J won the prize with her “Tarte aux pommes” as this involved quite a lot of steps and skills. Along with having to translate two recipes from French, Tilly had to make the pastry, prepare the apple sauce (‘compote’), as well as peel, slice and arrange the apple slices. Students did attempt different recipes but sadly not all masterpieces made it to the photo stage as many were so delicious, they were eaten up quickly and there was no time for a photo shoot! Our most popular recipe can be seen below for anyone who fancies having a go at French baking.
