Penwortham Girls’ High School is celebrating another successful set of GCSE results, with more than a third of all grades achieved at 9–7, the highest grades awarded at GCSE.
The results reflect the hard work, ambition and determination of students across the school, alongside the dedication of staff and the support of families.
This year’s Results Day was particularly special as it marked the final GCSE Results Day in the school’s current building, which has been home to Penwortham Girls’ High School since 1954. The school is due to move into its new building in January 2027.
Students were joined in their celebrations by the Mayor of Penwortham, Mrs Tracey Flannery, and her husband, Cllr James Flannery.
Mrs Flannery said: “We are thrilled to have been invited to help celebrate and congratulate the Year 11 pupils in this much cherished school building for its very last GCSE Results Day.”
Lorimer Russell Hayes, Co-Chair of the Governing Body, praised the collective effort behind the students’ achievements.
“When staff, students and parents all work together then these outstanding results are possible. The Governing Body is proud to support their exceptional efforts,” she said.
Headteacher Sharon Hall said the school was incredibly proud of its Year 11 students and highlighted the importance of carrying the school’s strong sense of community into its new home.
“As we move to our new school, it is important that we take with us the strong sense of community and ambition that makes Penwortham Girls’ High School so special.”
The school is also celebrating being redesignated as a Platinum Artsmark School, recognising its commitment to providing exceptional arts and cultural education.
The school’s two-year Artsmark journey celebrated its multicultural community through music, dance, art and drama. The programme culminated in a production of Disney’s Frozen, which was the final musical staged in the current school building.
As the school looks ahead to a new chapter in its new building, this year’s GCSE successes and Artsmark achievement provide further reasons for the whole school community to celebrate.
