Celebrating the European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages is celebrated every year on 26th September. Established by the Council of Europe, the day promotes language learning, celebrates cultural diversity, and highlights the many benefits of speaking different languages across the world. It encourages people of all ages to explore new languages and cultures while recognising our rich linguistic heritage.

At Penwortham Girls’ High School, students and staff marked the occasion with a range of activities throughout the day.

Greetings in Different Languages

The day began with a lively language exchange as students and staff greeted each other in a variety of European languages. From French Bonjour to Swedish Hej, everyone embraced the opportunity to learn and use new words.

European Languages Quiz

Students put their knowledge to the test in a fun and challenging quiz competition, answering questions about European languages, geography and culture. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork and curiosity on display. Please submit all quiz entries to Mrs Williams before the end of the week.

Poster Competition

In the weeks leading up to the event, students created colourful and imaginative posters celebrating languages and cultures from around the world. The standard of entries was exceptionally high. The winners will be announced next week, with certificates and prizes awarded.
