Art Department update
It has been a fantastic year of creativity and hard work across the Art department, and we are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved.
Year 7 students have been immersing themselves in their insect project, developing their observational and tonal drawing skills. They have also learned how to create their own sgraffito boards, producing vibrant and detailed insect designs. The use of bold colour and imaginative mark-making to create intricate patterns has been particularly impressive. One of the standout elements of this project has been the “chocolate box” style insects displayed in matchboxes—these miniature pieces are wonderfully intricate, colourful, and full of personality.
Year 8 have been working on their clay cakes project, and the results have been outstanding. From imaginative designs to carefully constructed clay pieces, students have shown real skill and creativity. There is some exceptional talent emerging from this year group, and it has been a pleasure to see their ideas come to life.
Year 9 are currently trialling an exciting new clay project in anticipation of our much-anticipated kiln arriving as part of the new build. Students are creating clay dragon eyes, and while we will be using paint this year, we are already looking ahead to seeing how these pieces will develop with glaze in the future. One thing is certain—the dragon eyes are here to stay!
