Year 7 English – Travel Poetry

This term, our Year 7 English students have been studying ‘Journeys and Adventures’.

As part of this unit, they studied a poem by the poet Wang Ping, called ‘Things We Carry on the Sea’, which focuses on the journeys of refugees and migrants from around the world.

Our students have then written their own poems, considering the things they would carry with them if they were to leave their home – both physically and emotionally.

We were really impressed with the compassion shown by our students, and the thought that went into their poems.

Here are a selection from across the English classes.
