U12s Rotary Football Tournament

On Thursday 14th May, we took two Year 7 teams to the University of Lancashire’s Sports Arena to compete in the U12s Preston South Rotary Club 7-a-side Girls’ Football Tournament. With schools attending from across Lancashire, the competition was fierce, and both teams represented the school brilliantly throughout the day.

From the very first match, our players demonstrated excellent skill, determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Both teams performed fantastically well in the round-robin stages, with the A team finishing second in their group to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

The quarter-final stage proved to be incredibly exciting, as the team had to play two matches to earn a place in the semi-finals. The first game was against a strong Lytham side who had remained unbeaten all day. After making some tactical changes and working tirelessly as a team, we held them to a thrilling 0–0 draw.

Next, we faced Our Lady’s from Preston, knowing that only a win would secure our place in the semi-finals. The girls rose to the challenge superbly, producing an excellent performance to win 2–0 and progress to the next stage.

In the semi-final, we came up against St Bede’s — the only team to have beaten us in the group stages, and only by a single goal. The girls knew they were capable of turning the result around, and after an intense and closely fought game, the breakthrough finally came a minute into extra time. A calm and composed finish from India secured a fantastic 1–0 victory and sent us through to the final.

The final saw us face Lytham once again, this time over a longer match. Just before kick-off, the rain that had threatened all day finally arrived, pouring down as the girls gave absolutely everything on the pitch. Their resilience, communication, sportsmanship, and tremendous skill were outstanding throughout. Despite a brave and determined performance, we unfortunately conceded a goal just three minutes before the final whistle, meaning we finished as runners-up.

Well done to both teams for a fantastic display of football and for representing the school so positively throughout the day. It was a wonderful experience and a brilliant day of football for everyone involved.

Well done to all the team! Sophie D, Neytiri F, India G, Katy L, Olivia L, Elsie M Autumn W, Tabitha J, Lizzie A, Gracie W, Heidi B, Adelaide D, Felicity H, Harriet L, Jorja-Lily Kay and Shriya P.

Special mention to manager’s players for the tournament from the teams – India and Lizzie.
