French ‘Crêpes’ with Year 9

As part of our cultural enrichment, we look at different celebrations or events in France and the French speaking world during lessons. Recently, we found out that Pancake Day (“La Chandeleur”) is celebrated on a different day in France. In France and other European countries, it is celebrated every year on February 2nd. “Mardi Gras” (Shrove Tuesday) is also celebrated a few weeks later, where people enjoy more pancakes (or doughnuts, apple fritters and waffles). In class, we watched a short video showcasing how Carnival is celebrated in Nice. We were very impressed!

Last month, Year 9 French students had the opportunity to join Miss Scott’s Food Tech Club to make pancakes after school. Students had to translate and follow a recipe in French.   They did great and the proof was in the pudding/ pancake…Miam, miam! Excellent pancake flipping skills were particularly spotted from Celina! A big thank you to Miss Scott for helping us out once again.
