Food Preparation and Nutrition

The Food and Nutrition department at PGHS has been very lucky to be accepted onto Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food scheme.  The challenge is to create 10 healthy dishes. The Year 9 Baking club have accepted this challenge and are now working on their third dish. So far, the students have made pancakes and a tomato soup.

Food and Nutrition had a lovely visit from past students of PGHS. One even brought in her cook book from ‘Domestic Science’ as it was called back then. She still uses the recipes today!

Year 9 students have been learning about Fairtrade and have made smoothies using Fairtrade bananas and tempered chocolate to make chocolate decorations. The students also learnt how to fold their own piping bag using baking paper.

We like to celebrate amazing baking and cooking skills in Food and Nutrition.  As well as achieving a Head’s Breakfast or a Head’s Commendation, we also have our Chef of the Week award. Your child may come home with this certificate!
