This month, our Year 8 and 9 students delved into an important chapter of history as they learned about the Berlin Wall and its impact on Germany. Through engaging discussions, they explored the wall’s construction, its role in dividing families and communities and the momentous reunification of Germany in 1989.
To deepen their understanding of this pivotal event, students participated in a hands-on project where they created paper bricks, adorned with graffiti-style art. Each brick symbolised not only the physical barrier of the wall but also the vibrant expressions of freedom and hope that emerged after its fall.
As they decorated their bricks, students reflected on the significance of graffiti as a form of protest and self-expression during the wall’s existence. This creative activity allowed them to engage with the themes of unity and resilience, highlighting how art can be a powerful tool for change.
The project culminated in a display that showcased their work, serving as a reminder of the importance of freedom and the lessons learned from history. We are proud of our Year 8 and 9 students for their thoughtful engagement and creativity in honoring the legacy of the Berlin Wall.
