STEM Festival

At Penwortham Girls’ High School, we know that schools have a far bigger role than simply teaching students the knowledge needed to pass their GCSEs. That is why each term, we have a festival fortnight packed with extra-curricular activities designed to ensure all our students benefit from an inspiring and engaging personal development programme.

This term we’ll be holding our annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Festival between Monday 27th February and Friday 10th March. In order to run the full intended programme, we need your help.

Careers Carousel: Wednesday 1st March

One of the ‘blue ribbon’ events of the STEM Festival is our Careers Carousel, which is held for Years 10 and 11. At this event, students ‘speed date’ with a number of employers to find out about careers in the STEM sector. Do you work in a STEM industry or related post? Would you, or an appropriate college, be able to attend school to inform the students about your job / employer?

KS3 Trips

During the fortnight, we are planning to run several trips for Years 7 to 9. To ensure these trips are economically viable, and to reduce the impact of absent teachers on the students remaining in school, we are looking for parent volunteers to support our trip leaders. Volunteering parents will always be with a teacher, their role will simply be to guide and supervise attending students.

Trip helpers are needed for the following visits:

· Helmshore Mill: History (Year 8) – Tuesday 28th February and Friday 3rd March

· Blue Planet Aquarium (Year 7) – Friday 3rd March

· Brockholes: Ecosystems Fieldwork (Year 8) – Wednesday 8th March

· Fleetwood: Coastal Fieldwork (Year 9) – Thursday 9th March

(NB: Due to risk assessment rules, parents can only support trips which are not attended by their own children).

A letter containing further details was parentmailed on the 4th January, it may be in your junk box! If you are able to help out at any of these events, please email b.ward@penworthamgirls.lancs.sch.uk with your availability by Friday 13th January.
