Feature Artist: Irving Penn

This term, our ‘Feature Artist’ is internationally renowned photographer, Irving Penn. Irving Penn was one of the twentieth century’s great photographers, known for his arresting images and his masterful coverage of multiple genres.

At a time when photography was primarily understood as a means of communication, he approached it with an artist’s eye and expanded the creative potential of the medium, both in his professional and personal work.

The Irving Penn Foundation houses the largest repository of Irving Penn’s work and was established to promote knowledge and understanding of the artistic legacy of Irving Penn, including the diversity of techniques, mediums and subject matter that the artist explored.  Visit www.irvingpenn.org for more information.
