Syllabus

Structure

When the pupils start in Year 7 they are introduced to the formal elements and basic skills in art and design. Their skills and subject knowledge improve progressively as they move up through Years 7, 8 and 9 (KS3).

We consider artists and artistic movements an integral element to the broader understanding of the subject. Therefore as a department we set artist research homework for each project.

During Years 10 and 11 (KS4) the pupils follow the AQA unendorsed syllabus.

The two-year course consists of two components:
Portfolio of Work – 60%
Externally Set Task – 40%

Portfolio of Work

The coursework consists of four units of work. Within the units the pupils must meet four assessment objectives. They are:

Assessment Objective 1
Develop their ideas through investigations informed by contextual and other sources demonstrating analytical and cultural understanding.

Assessment Objective 2
Refine their ideas through experimenting and selecting appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes.

Assessment Objective 3
Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or other forms.

Assessment Objective 4
Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating analytical and critical understanding, realizing intentions and where appropriate, making connections between visual, written, oral or other elements.
