Cheerdance Club

On Wednesday 18th October, we are launching the start of a new Cheer Dance Club which is open to Year 7 and Year 8 students on a Wednesday lunch time in the Dance Studio. The club will be run by our GCSE Dance students where they will be working on a cheer dance for our Christmas show. Don’t miss out! Please ensure you collect an early lunch pass from the PE office on Wednesday at break time so you can get your lunch before the club starts at 12:45pm. We can’t wait to see you there.

Netball Success

Not only are our students performing at high levels in school, they are also experiencing fantastic success in the sporting world outside of school. Sophie H-S in Year 7 has just been selected to represent Greater Manchester County Netball at Under 13s level. This is a real honour as Sophie is currently an U12 which means she has been selected for the age group higher than her age. The dedication and commitment you have shown to your sport, Sophie is exceptional and here at PGHS, we are very proud of you. We can’t wait to see you representing PGHS in our netball team once the matches kick off after October half term. Well done!

Year 8 Netball teams

I had the pleasure of taking the Year 8 Netball teams to Walton-le-Dale High School on Tuesday 10th October to play a league fixture. The girls conducted themselves with dignity and ambition and played really well together as a team. Our passes were accurate through the court, the defenders performed lots of interceptions and our shooters were on fire with their percentage of shots scored. As a result, the A team beat Walton-Le-Dale high school 34-0 and the B team beat them 28-0. A performance of hard work and dedication to their team was put in by every member. Well done, girls!

South Ribble Netball Leagues

In South Ribble this year, we have moved to an online league system so students and parents can check the position of each team in the leagues at any point. Please click the league below to see the current standings so far:

On Tuesday 4th July, professional dancer and dance choreographer, Alex McKenna, came to PGHS to work with some students from Y7, Y8 and Y9 to create a dance piece for our school show on Wednesday 12th July. The girls had a fantastic day learning Jazz, Bollywood and African dance styles, as well as being able to ask Alex what working in the world of dance is like.

Sports Day

After having to cancel Sports Day on Monday 3rd July due to poor weather, Sports Day continued with the same enthusiasm on Thursday 6th July. All years competed in an interform Athletics, Netball and Rounders competition as well as non-sporting roles such as photographers, poets, time keepers and form banner creators. All the girls completed their role with resilience and compassion with some excellent sporting performances. Final results of sports day will be revealed in our celebration assemblies on Wednesday 19th July.

Year 9 Rounders Team

On Monday after school our Year 9 Rounders team competed in the South Ribble Rounders Tournament at Priory Academy. We were very lucky to escape the rain and thunderstorms and it was a fantastic event. The girls played 6 matches and made such good progress throughout the competition by winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 3, finishing in 5th position overall. They demonstrated some great Rounders skills with impressive catches, quick thinking fielding and scored some amazing Rounders from strong batting techniques. Well done, girls! The team were Hattie C, Elizabeth B-R, Ruby R, Charlotte P, Georgia J, Amy L, Darcey P, Emma S, Lexi P, Evie H, Natalie K and Natalie U.

PGHS Future Lionesses Experience Playing at a Professional Football Club Training Ground

Last week, our Year 7 and Year 8 and 9 Football Teams were given the opportunity to play football against Penwortham Priory Academy at Manchester City’s Training Academy (part of the Etihad in Manchester). This is where the youth teams and ladies team train. This was such a fantastic opportunity for the girls to experience playing at the impressive facilities of a professional football club, something some of them aspire to playing for themselves one day. They were extremely hot conditions, but the girls performed exceptionally, demonstrating high levels of skill, ability, teamwork and sportsmanship. We even managed to see some of the impressive trophies! A lovely, memorable morning was had by all that attended. Well done, girls!
