Celebrating Year 7’s Inspiring Assemblies

We are incredibly proud of our Year 7 students, who have recently taken the lead in creating and presenting a series of powerful and thoughtful assemblies. Each form group tackled an important theme relevant to student life, and their efforts have left a lasting impression on both their peers and staff.

7J opened the series with a meaningful assembly on emotional wellbeing. They explored practical ways we can support our mental health, including mindfulness techniques, talking to trusted adults and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Their message was clear; looking after your mind is just as important as looking after your body. Their creativity with their outfit changes and props brought their assembly to life.

7S followed with a warm and inclusive presentation on friendships. They highlighted what makes a good friend, how to handle conflicts with kindness and why supporting one another strengthens our school community. Their personal reflections made us all stop and think about the importance of kindness and empathy.

7P bravely tackled the challenges of coping with academia and revision. With knowledge checks and end of year tests on the horizon, their strategies for managing stress, staying motivated and finding balance were incredibly timely and helpful. Their test results skit was a great illustration of the power of revision.

7G took on the ever-important topic of getting organised. With tips on how to revise, setting goals, and managing time effectively, they offered valuable advice that all students will benefit from. Their energy and enthusiasm showed just how empowering it can be to feel in control of your day-to-day responsibilities.

7Y brought the series to a moving close with an assembly on bullying. Through drama, real-life examples, and practical guidance, they reminded us all of the power of standing up, speaking out and supporting one another. Their message of everyone deserving to feel safe, respected and included, resonated deeply.

Finally, 7H delivered a powerful message about attendance and its impact on learning and achievement. They clearly communicated why showing up matters; not just for academic success, but for developing positive habits and staying connected with school life. Their confident delivery and teamwork were especially impressive.

Each form demonstrated excellent teamwork, creativity and a strong sense of community spirit. Their assemblies didn’t just inform, they inspired.

Well done, Year 7 – your voices have made a difference.

Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday 11th June, our U13 and U15 cricket teams proudly represented the school at the South Ribble Cricket Tournament at Penwortham Cricket Club. Year 9 Volcano Models Project

Another bumper year for models with the Humanities corridor rammed full of amazing entries. Alongside the traditional papier-mâché, builders’ foam, Lego and cardboard models, this year saw some very original designs and mediums. A number of excellent Minecraft entries caught my eye and the addition of ash clouds shown in a range of ingenious ways to a number of the volcanoes really added a new dimension too. We have volcanoes that rumble, volcanoes that light up, volcanoes that smoke and volcanoes that spin! Both Mr Ward and I have overseen MANY volcano model competitions over the years but we both agree that the standard of skill and Geographical content has never been higher. Well done to everyone that submitted an entry. Prize winners and highly commended entries will be revealed in the end of year newsletter.

Valedictory Dinner

On Wednesday 25th June, the Class of 2025 marked the end of their time at Penwortham Girls’ with their Valedictory Dinner. It was a fabulous evening celebrating their end of their time at PGHS and, of course, the end of their GCSE exams.

Prom offers a great opportunity for the girls to get dressed up, but the most important thing about the night was the opportunity to spend time as a year group before embarking on the next stage in their journeys.

The girls thoroughly enjoyed the event. The dance floor was full and the ‘selfie mirror’ was a hit, supplying mementos of the evening.

We look forward to seeing them all again on results day.

Textiles

In Textiles this last week, the students have been using their creativity to design a range of different designs for an adventure story character. They will use these designs to create a 3D version of their character using various fabrics and techniques. It involves various skills such as hand embroidery and also using a sewing machine. Year 7 really enjoy the creativity of this project as it gives them a lot of freedom to use their imaginations.

These designs are from Cerys W, Emma, Serenity MB and Sophia E.

In Year 8 Textiles, students are creating a bag inspired by the work of different designers. The repeat patterns created here are taken from the work of Yinka Ilori, Aljoud Lootah and Louis Comfort Tiffany. Students are encouraged to play around with the images until they create a unique image which will then be printed on to fabric using a heat press. The examples shown here are from Callie W, Alice T, Alice H, Fatima A, Mollie S, Gauri C, Darcy H and Sadie D.

A Fond Farewell to Year 11 – Celebrating Success in Food Preparation & Nutrition

As we bid farewell to our wonderful Year 11 students at PGHS, we want to take a moment to celebrate their incredible achievements, particularly in their Food Preparation and Nutrition studies.

Throughout their time with us, this year group has shown resilience, creativity and a strong work ethic; none more so than during their recent NEA2 (Non-Exam Assessment 2). This important component of their GCSE course required students to research, plan, prepare and present a range of dishes to a professional standard – they rose to the challenge beautifully.

From developing exciting new flavour combinations to mastering complex culinary techniques, the students demonstrated both skill and passion in the kitchen. Their final dishes were a true reflection of their dedication and the results were nothing short of outstanding.

We are incredibly proud of what Year 11 has accomplished. Not only have they met the demands of a rigorous course, but they have done this with enthusiasm, creativity and a maturity that promises great things for their futures.

We wish all of our Year 11 leavers the very best in their next steps and hope that they carry the knowledge, confidence and love of cooking that they’ve gained with them wherever they go.

Well done, Year 11! You will be missed!

Unfortunately, we cannot show you the amazing dishes they have created, but we can show you photos from last year.  Look at these incredible dishes:

Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food

We are thrilled to share that Monday’s after school Baking Club at PGHS has successfully completed the Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food programme! As part of this exciting initiative, our Year 9 Baking Club rose to the challenge of creating 10 healthy and delicious dishes and they did not disappoint.

Over the course of the programme, students developed their skills in the kitchen and gained a deeper understanding of healthy eating. From flipping perfect pancakes to crafting a flavourful tomato soup, each recipe was approached with enthusiasm and creativity. We are incredibly proud of their commitment and teamwork in completing all 10 dishes. Students will receive their certificate in the end of year assembly.

A big well done to everyone involved!

We like to celebrate amazing baking and cooking skills in Food Preparation and Nutrition.  As well as achieving a Head’s Breakfast or a Head’s Commendation, we also have our Chef of the Week award. Look out for your child coming home with this certificate!
