Bedrock Leader Board

Each week, we challenge our KS3 students to achieve a minimum of 20 points on Bedrock. Engagement at this level will enhance their knowledge of vocabulary and English grammar. Since September, there are 2 students in the whole of KS3 who have exceeded 1000 points, which is a phenomenal achievement! We challenge all students to break the 1000 point threshold by the Summer holidays – will you be on this list?

Year 7 Greek Mythology

This term, Year 7 are learning about Greek Mythology before they go on to learn about the history of the English language. So far, students have Pandora’s Box and the story of Icarus. As part of their study, they have been exploring whether these myths are Historical Myths, Aetiological Myths or Psychological Myths. If your daughter is in Year 7, why not ask them to define these different types of myths. And if you have a ‘Pandora’ fan in your Year 7 daughter, ask them to explain why ‘Pandora’ is a perfectly chosen name for the retail brand.

This week, Mrs Snowdon’s English class have submitted fact-files for an in-class competition based on their own research of Greek Gods. There has been some super pieces of work completed for homework. The three winning entries are from: Niamh P, Hannah N and Sarah M.

KS3 Product Design

Well done to Hannah in year 9 for her lovely eco jewellery design which made our star designer wall. Also, a mention to Saga and Gracie who both made fantastic final products! The students cast pewter into laser cut moulds and inlaid recycled HDPE plastic (made from bottle tops) to produce their eco jewellery.

Year 10 Product Design

The group have been working hard to complete their desk tidy/ jewellery organiser project. They were encouraged to use CAD/CAM including laser cutting, as well as traditional methods to create their final outcomes. Some students have even experimented with pivot joints and living hinges. They have also just started a new project making a children’s night light. This has involved soldering electronics and vacuum forming a base and the students have shown great resilience by overcoming any issues while soldering in order to make a successful circuit. Well done!
